![]() Walk mode would be a lot more useful if it basically lopped off the top ~80-90% of the power range for the throttle and let you carefully modulate the power to navigate things like hills and stairs. The walk mode is also terribly designed, it's basically trying to maintain 5 mph or something like that or a fixed power output which is basically useless. I can only imagine how bad it would be if this bike had more power. There's also no real protection against accidentally hitting the throttle if the display is turned on like disabling the throttle in PAS 0. It feels incredibly difficult to start off smoothly in first gear, the torque hits instantly and jerks you around. In addition to these issues, there are a lot of niggling flaws like the lack of throttle modulation. ![]() I'm trying the tern rack and fenders but it's an open question as to whether any of it will fit. There's also no real easy solution for a rear rack or fenders. You have no chance of fitting something like a smartphone mount for navigation purposes. There's no headlight mount in the front or rear which means it's really a tight squeeze to have the display + display controls + shifter + headlight on the handlebars. I'll post an update if it isn't.Īs alluded to earlier, lighting and general quality of life issues abound with this bike. I had the saddle bag break the plastic clasps that held the straps in place, but I suspect that this was a one-off problem. The battery mount is also a topeak saddle bag which means that you can't put a light or anything on the seat post or the seat rails. 300 WHr means that if you charge to 80-90% you're pretty much tapped out in like 8 miles if you actually take advantage of the power and speed. The second problem is the battery mount and battery capacity. If Luna wants to add the 50-100 dollars and spring for basic hydraulic brakes or at least dual piston mechanical brakes it would go a long way to reducing the pain of getting this bike set up. I haven't even dealt with it as it really wears in and I can tell you that it's garbage. Maybe this is just poor adjustment but both the LBS and I have tried pretty damn hard to fix this while retaining acceptable brake engagement. The pads have horrible retention mechanisms (Bengal MB606) so even when adjusted properly you can have the pads start touching the brake rotor lightly and making horrible screeching noises. You will have to either get good at adjusting it to not rub while also having acceptable braking power or pay your local bike shop to do it. So you're wasting watts just heating up the brakes. ![]() Most often they will show up rubbing and not trued to the rotor. They work at stopping you but there are a number of pitfalls like: These things are a royal pain in the ass to adjust. You should just expect to slice up the foam grips right away on the pedals when folding it. It fits in just about any car which is a huge benefit, as well as being able to more effectively utilize public transit to get somewhere quickly. All of this stuff works, just not as well as I'd hope it would.Īnd as a folding bike, the bike folds up well. Luna has something special here, they're just missing a bit of polish to really hit a home run. In that scenario, going 20 mph is a good way to get run off the road in a lot of places even if taking the lane is objectively the safest option. And while a lot of people are going to say that speed doesn't matter, the mostly US audience reading this will be spending a lot of time running with the bulls. It's also clear to me that conversions like this are really somewhat lacking compared to a bike built for purpose.īefore I dive into the design issues I have, I want to first sandbag by saying after looking through the market it's obvious to me that this is really the only choice you have if you want a pre-built folding ebike that at least goes to class 3 speeds. Overall, I would say this is a decent bike, but it basically shows up 80-85% complete as a commuter/errand bike. This is still early days as far as I'm concerned but I think I've ridden it enough to provide a good, unbiased impression to those that are interested in this bike.
